Findings here on the Beach

Dry Agates

While the sands of the ocean are wonderful here, many people (myself included) find things much more interesting once the sands of Summer have been washed back off shore exposing natures gifts buried below. While agates can be found to some extent all year around the high tides and stormy seas of Winter uncover agate beds long buried and waiting to be discovered.

Large Agate From Sea Rose Beach

This Agate was found on our beach in January 2008. It is a very nice piece and the largest we have found here. This agate can be visited in our front office.

The Same Carnelian through Light

The two pictures above are both of the same Carnelian Agate. These agates are often missed due to the darkness and tone. Holding them to the light it is very clear as to how special they are. This one was also found on our beach. It also can be visited in our front office.

Unique Multi Colored Agate

While we are really novices at agate collecting we have found it to be a very enjoyable pastime. What may you ask will we ever do with our agates, it is our plan that when we move on from here we will dump the almost the entire lot back in the ocean as a thanks for the enjoyment. We also respect the ocean and nature and take along trash bags for washed in rubbish that finds its way to the shore. We believe that by giving of ourselves to nature, nature in return may guide us in our searches - karma if you will.

A few points of caution when searching for agates. First, above everything be aware of the ocean and sneak waves, you might be far away from where the waves have been washing and before you know it you can be up to your waist in water. Also it is not wise to use your MP3 Player if you are close to the water as it hides the sounds of the ocean.

We have become very tuned with the sounds of the water action and still are very aware of where the water is at all times. Feel free to agate hunt and share your findings with us if you like. We can even guide serious hunters to a few spots if asked. We do after all speak agate here at the Beachcomber!
